General Meeting, Chili Cook off & Bocce Ball, October 3

Please join us for our General Meeting on Thursday, October 3, 6:30pm, at the PBYC clubhouse, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura Harbor.

We will start at 6:00pm with Bocce Ball at the court just to the west of the club. I hear Ralph is a ringer, so we need some good challengers!

Instead of a BBQ, each person is invited and encouraged to enter the LPSC Great Chili Cook-off and bring a pot of your special chili for folks to sample. First Prize is $25 and Second Prize is $10. The club will provide little cups and spoons for tasting of each entrant’s chili. The club will also provide some chili so no-one goes hungry. Whether you bring chili or not, please bring a side dish or dessert to share!

So start researching recipes and thinking of a descriptive name for your chili, and start cookin’!

We have some exciting fall events coming up that we will discuss, including Magic Castle Trip, our Annual Fall Party and Christmas Lights at the Zoo!

We hope to see you there!

TGIT and Concert, Sept 12, 4:00pm – 6:00pm, Settebello and Oxnard Collection

We have a great TGIT Happy Hour planned for Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana located in The Collection at Riverpark, 2760 Seaglass Way, Oxnard, CA 93036. Plenty of parking in the structure behind the restaurant. Afterwards, we can enjoy a concert starting at 6:30pm featuring Twisted Gypsy – A tribute to Fleetwood Mac at The Collection Park.

We always enjoy this location for a TGIT! Settlebello offers a wide variety of pizzas, salads, salami, antipasti, pasta and dolci. See their menu at: https://www.toasttab.com/settebellooxn/v3.

Settebello was one of the first restaurants to open its doors to the Riverpark community in The Collection at Riverpark. From the day they opened the pizza oven has been manned by Pizzaiolo/Chef Rafael Garcia. Rafael has been part of the Settebello family since the beginning of our journey that started in Henderson, NV nearly 15 years ago. Since then Rafael oversaw the opening of our Pasadena location before relocating himself and his family to Riverpark to operate Settebello Oxnard.

After the TGIT, we can head over to the Collection Park for the Twisted Gypsy – A tribute to Fleetwood Mac concert. Bring your picnic chairs and blankets, relax, and enjoy a fantastic concert ! More info about the concert can be found at: Collection Concerts

General Meeting, Thursday Sept 5, 6:30pm

Steve Ehret has arranged for Dr. Tracy Long to give a presentation entitled Ventura Botanical Gardens – A Garden for the 21st Century. She will give an overview of the gardens and discuss how botanical gardens in general and VBG in particular play an important role in environmental stewardship today.

The meeting is Thursday, September 5, 6:30pm at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura, CA. We will be having a BBQ, so bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Dr. Tracy Long is an anthropologist who specializes in the study of human organizational systems. In 2011, she joined the Board of Directors of a young non-profit, the Ventura Botanical Gardens, in the beginning phases of planning a world class botanic garden in the hills above downtown Ventura. Over the years since joining the Board, she has served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the organization. These days she serves the gardens directly in several administrative capacities and as the Director of Visitor Services. She considers it a great privilege to be able to observe up close the development of the amazing resource that the Ventura Botanical Gardens are rapidly becoming and to share this beautiful place with the 60,000 guests who visit annually.

Feel free to bring a friend to hear about our Gardens!
