We will have Game Night and play Family Feud. Rebecca will take the role as Steve Harvey, divide us into 2 teams (families) and will lead the competition to answer fun survey questions. Should be a blast! We don’t plan to have a raffle but will update everyone on upcoming events and will be taking sign-ups for our March 4 – 9 Mammoth trip.
Steve Ehret has arranged for Dr. Tracy Long to give a presentation entitled Ventura Botanical Gardens – A Garden for the 21st Century. She will give an overview of the gardens and discuss how botanical gardens in general and VBG in particular play an important role in environmental stewardship today.
The meeting is Thursday, September 5, 6:30pm at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura, CA. We will be having a BBQ, so bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Dr. Tracy Long is an anthropologist who specializes in the study of human organizational systems. In 2011, she joined the Board of Directors of a young non-profit, the Ventura Botanical Gardens, in the beginning phases of planning a world class botanic garden in the hills above downtown Ventura. Over the years since joining the Board, she has served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the organization. These days she serves the gardens directly in several administrative capacities and as the Director of Visitor Services. She considers it a great privilege to be able to observe up close the development of the amazing resource that the Ventura Botanical Gardens are rapidly becoming and to share this beautiful place with the 60,000 guests who visit annually.

July 4th is on Thursday this year, so we are delaying our General Meeting to July 11th.
At 6:30pm on Thursday, July 11, we will hold our General Meeting at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club (PBYC), 1363 Spinnaker Dr, Ventura. We will provide BBQ Burgers and Chicken. Bring a side dish or dessert to share.
For fun, we will be playing bingo with some fantastic prizes, including an Island Packers gift certificate for a day trip to Santa Cruz Island, gift cards and more! Everyone will get one free bingo card and can purchase additional cards for $2.00 each (so please bring some $1 and $2 bills so we don’t have to make change)!
On Thursday, June 6th at 6:30pm, the Los Padres Ski and Social Club will host a noted author, Chuck Graham, who will give a talk on kayaking the Channel Islands and conservation efforts to protect the island. The general public is invited as the Club’s guests. The meeting is held at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura and starts with a free BBQ followed by the presentation at 7:30pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
In addition, we will be having a raffle with the Grand Prize being 2 tickets on an Island Packers boat trip.
Chuck Graham is a freelance writer and photographer from Carpinteria, CA. He’s been leading kayak tours at the Channel Islands National Park for over 22 years. His stories and photos have appeared in National Geographic publications, BBC Wildlife Magazine, High Country News, American Forests, Natural History Magazine, Men’s Journal, Backpacker, The Surfer’s Journal, and Westways. He’s the author of the award-winning Carrizo Plain, Where the Mountains Meet the Grasslands, that was published in January 2021. Please join us for our General Meeting on Thursday, May 2, 6:30pm, at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr, Ventura Marina. At the General Meeting, we will celebrate Cinco de Mayo early. Turkey tacos will be the main dish provided by the club, complete with onions, cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes, avocados, shredded cheese, and beans. We will also have chips, a piñata and the bar will be stocked with Margaritas.
We ask members to bring Mexican inspired sides and desserts to complete the fiesta!
Besides celebrating Cinco de Mayo, we will install our new board of directors and also have a raffle with prizes. Estar allí o ser cuadrado!
Please join us for our General Meeting on Thursday, April 4th, 6:30pm. The meeting will be at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura Harbor. This will be our first BBQ of the season, and we ask each person to bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share.
April is considered our Annual Membership meeting and we will be taking nominations for Board Positions and voting in our new board. Anyone is eligible to be on our board and position descriptions can be viewed at: LPSC-Board-Position-Descriptions. The board is always looking for new blood with fresh ideas and we greatly encourage you to consider being on the board.
We will also be taking signups for Music Under the Stars concert featuring the “Smooth Sounds of Santana” on July 20 at the Olivas Adobe in Ventura. Details will be presented at the meeting. Your payment at the meeting is required for signup. If you can’t make the meeting, contact Carol A. to make arrangements.
Our General Meeting on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00pm will be an Oscar Preview Night! The meeting will be held at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club at 1363 Spinnaker Dr, Ventura.
To get in the mood for the 96th Annual Oscars on Sunday, our Oscar Preview Night will feature Oscar trivia contest, a look at some hilarious Oscar moments, and a chance for you to predict the Oscar winners in several categories. The winner will be announced after the Sunday night Oscars award show, and the grand prize is an Island Packers trip voucher for two WORTH AT LEAST $130!!!!!
So whether you’re a film buff or just a good guesser, do your research, consult your psychic or rub your magic lamp, and come for a fun Oscar-filled evening. To make it even more festive, we suggest that you don some Oscar finery (optional of course), at least from the waist up.(e.g. jeans and a Tuxedo jacket, leggings and a sparkly top)
Don’t forget to bring an Oscar-worthy snack to share.
We will also have nominations for the 2024-2025 Board and information about upcoming events and trips.

Come help us celebrate our 85th Anniversary at our General Meeting on Thursday, January 4th, 7:00pm. We will have Champagne and Cake, and every member who attends gets a free raffle ticket with the chance of winning one of two Island Packer’s Trips for 2 (at least an $80 value!!). Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase. We will also have a slide show and encourage members to share stories of past skiing escapades!
The celebration is at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club clubhouse at 1363 Spinnaker Dr, Ventura Harbor. As the club is providing cake, please bring an hors d’oeuvre to share. Members are also encouraged to wear ski or après ski apparel to help buoy the ski club celebration spirit.
Our General Meeting will be Thursday, December 7 at 7 PM at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club in Ventura Harbor. The club is providing pizza, so please bring a festive snack or dessert to share. We will have our annual Holiday Gift Exchange. All participants should bring a nicely wrapped gift (new and valued at ~$20). Each participant will get a number and then the fun begins as we choose gifts from the table of wrapped gifts or gifts are “stolen” from those who have already chosen one. Don’t worry, rules will be explained at the meeting. Also the bar will be open for purchases and a LPSC signature drink!
