Please join us for our General Meeting on Thursday, April 4th, 6:30pm. The meeting will be at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, 1363 Spinnaker Dr., Ventura Harbor. This will be our first BBQ of the season, and we ask each person to bring an appetizer, side dish, or dessert to share.

April is considered our Annual Membership meeting and we will be taking nominations for Board Positions and voting in our new board. Anyone is eligible to be on our board and position descriptions can be viewed at: LPSC-Board-Position-Descriptions. The board is always looking for new blood with fresh ideas and we greatly encourage you to consider being on the board.

We will also be taking signups for Music Under the Stars concert featuring the “Smooth Sounds of Santana” on July 20 at the Olivas Adobe in Ventura. Details will be presented at the meeting. Your payment at the meeting is required for signup. If you can’t make the meeting, contact Carol A. to make arrangements.

General Meeting, Thursday, March 7, 7:00pm

Our General Meeting on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00pm will be an Oscar Preview Night!  The meeting will be held at the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club at 1363 Spinnaker Dr, Ventura.

To get in the mood for the 96th Annual Oscars on Sunday, our Oscar Preview Night will feature Oscar trivia contest, a look at some hilarious Oscar moments, and a chance for you to predict the Oscar winners in several categories.  The winner will be announced after the Sunday night Oscars award show, and the grand prize is an Island Packers trip voucher for two WORTH AT LEAST $130!!!!!

So whether you’re a film buff or just a good guesser, do your research, consult your psychic or rub your magic lamp, and come for a fun Oscar-filled evening.  To make it even more festive, we suggest that you don some Oscar finery (optional of course), at least from the waist up.(e.g. jeans and a Tuxedo jacket, leggings and a sparkly top)

Don’t forget to bring an Oscar-worthy snack to share.

We will also have nominations for the 2024-2025 Board and information about upcoming events and trips.

Palmer Observatory Star Party, March 9, 7:30 – 10:00 pm

Carol A says “Let’s shoot for the stars” and on Saturday, March 9, 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm, go to the Palmer Observatory at the Natural History Museum of Santa Barbara, located at 2559 Puesta Del Sol, Santa Barbara. Because reservations aren’t needed and there is no cost, we will not be taking signups. We will be asking at the general meeting on Thursday, March 7th, how many people are planning to attend, so that you can arrange carpools if you wish.

The Palmer Observatory will open its doors and its roof to share a remarkable view of the wonders of the night sky through their state-of-the-art 20-inch telescope. Join Museum Astronomy Programs staff and members of the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit for an evening of craters on the Moon, nebulas, galaxies, and more.

This event is free and appropriate for all audiences. No tickets or registration required.

The Star Party may be cancelled due to cloudy skies or rain. Because weather has been so unpredictable, we suggest that the day of or the day before, you check to see if it is cancelled because of rain or clouds.  Feel free to check their website: https://www.sbnature.org/visit/calendar/7776/star-party
or contact Astronomy Programs Manager John Winckowski at 805-682-4711 ext. 164.

If you plan to go, let Carol A or Carol S know. Car pools are suggested.
