RAFTING ON THE UPPER KERN RIVER, MAY 22-23

We are planning a rafting trip on the upper Kern River, above Lake Isabella for the weekend of May 22-23.  The plan is now for us to individually drive up Saturday, stay overnight at a motel, raft (or Kayak) Sunday morning, and come home Sunday evening.  Bryan Hennes is making motel and rafting reservations. Prices will be provided later and full payment will need to be made by May 6 to hold your reservation.  We had a few folks do this last year and it was a blast!

BOCCE BALL & GENERAL MEETING, MAY 6TH

We have rescheduled our Bocce Ball Game and socially distanced General meeting for Thursday, May 6.  The event will be in the lawn area west of the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, between the parking lot and walkway.  Bocce Ball will start at 4:30pm and the meeting at about 5:30pm.  The club will provide sanitizing supplies for the Bocce Ball games and the keys to the nearby restroom; members will provide their own seating, beverages and snacks.  Per Covid requirements, living groups (bubbles) will need to sit at least 6 feet apart and wear masks.  As always, there may be drawings and prizes!

More details will follow closer to the date!

EARTH DAY

Join fellow LPSC members as we celebrate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day with a beach cleanup. Most organizations are hosting virtual events throughout April (now called Earth Month). But we will be traditionalists with our event on Thursday, April 22. We will gather at 11 AM at West 5th Street & Mandalay Beach Road, Oxnard, CA (across from Oxnard Shores Mobile Home Park). There is plenty of parking along the street. Lunch, for anyone interested, to follow in Channel Islands Harbor (bring something to eat or pick up something at a local restaurant – we plan to picnic so bring a sitting device if you want.)

We are planning this around the low tide schedule. Wear your LPSC t-shirt, bring comfortable shoes (or go barefoot), sun hat/sun screen, gloves, a bag for collecting trash, if you have it – a grabber, a chair or blanket for lunch time AND A MASK (we will follow the correct guidelines).

CANCELLED due to Wind – Socially distanced ski club social event and general meeting, March 25, 2021

Because of high winds predicted on Thursday, we are cancelling this event.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 25 for a socially distanced ski club social event and general meeting.  The event will be in the lawn area west of the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, between the parking lot and walkway.  Bocce Ball will start at 4:30pm and the meeting at about 5:00pm.

Holiday Zoom Party, Thursday, Dec 17th 6:30 8:30 pm

It’s the UGLIEST holiday season ever, so dig out your ugly holiday sweater and join us for a couple of hours of socializing, laughs and cash prizes! We miss seeing you all, and wanted to find a way to celebrate this otherwise unhappy holiday season with all of our members. So, in lieu of a TGIT, we’ll gather online at 6:30 for some socializing and begin the festivities at 7:00, starting with our first ever UGLY HOLIDAY SWEATER CONTEST. Our astute panel of fashionistas will determine the most unsightly of the hideous beasts and declare a winner who will receive our BIGGEST CASH PRIZE EVER!

Remember our CRAZY TRIVIA QUIZZES in times past? We’re doing it again with even more mind-bending questions and CASH PRIZES. And RAFFLE RAFFLE, RAFFLE— throughout the evening we’ll raffle off more MONEY AND PRIZES, NO PURCHASE NECESSARY!

We will also be seeking your input about the 20-21 ski season and other
activities for the coming, hopefully better, year.

Need help with Zoom? Jeff will send out a link and more info about how to
get on, and will be available between 6:30 and 7 to take calls if you’re still
stuck. All you need is a computer or smartphone.

TGIT Socially Distanced Happy Hour, Thursday, October 29, 5:00pm

Our August TGIT HH at the Ventura Harbor was a huge success. We sat masked, socially distanced in chairs we each brought and munched and drank on food and drink that we brought or purchased at a Harbor restaurant. We even had two raffle winners. We will recap that event on Thursday, Oct 29 at 5:00 PM. Since it will be just before Halloween, feel free to come in costume. We know you will be wearing a mask anyway.  This is just before the end of Daylight Savings and the weather is turning cooler, therefore, this will be our last club TGIT HH until it is safe to meet in a restaurant.
Important details:

  • If you haven’t renewed your membership, bring your completed membership form (attached) and dues; see details below.
  • Meet at 5:00 in Ventura Harbor at the “Take Out Zone” — the grassy main lawn between old Blackbeard’s and Island Packers. https://venturaharbor.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Map-P1.pdf  (It’s the square, green area with the #5 on the map).
  • Masks (when not eating or drinking) and social distancing are required. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Just hang out or order take-out (drinks too) from the local restaurants.
  • We are not requiring an RSVP, but if our group gets too large, we will break into smaller groups to follow local COVID guidelines.
  • If you are not feeling well, please stay home and we will catch you another time!
  • We plan to have a raffle if enough members attend, with some great prizes!
  • We look forward to seeing you and enjoying a harbor sunset!
  • PS, we recommend you order ahead for food and libations since there can be lines at some of the restaurants:  Dine – Ventura Harbor Village

Kayaking at Ventura Harbor, October 21st, 3:30pm

The Club is planning to get outside on the water and kayak while the weather is still pleasant in Ventura. We will  meet at the Ventura Harbor at Ventura Boat Rentals (near Brophy Brothers and Fratelli’s) on Wednesday, October 21st, at 3:30pm where we will rent kayaks—single is $15  cash ($17 credit or debit) per hour, and a double is $20 cash ($23 credit or debit).  Paddle boats are also available for $20 if you prefer. Those with their own kayaks can launch at the boat ramp (on Anchors Way Drive across the street from The Ventura Marina Mobile Home Park)  at 3:45 and paddle over to meet the group. This is a fun, safe and easy way to see one another and get some exercise. Visit venturaboatrentals.com. We will advise if we have to cancel because of weather conditions.
